Rookie Ball

This is the first level of competitive baseball. Players will try out for the team in the spring. This level of play involves the pitching machine for a consistent pitch for all players. 10 players are used defensively.

Mosquito

Mosquito baseball is played by children 10 and 11 years old. Pitching is introduced for the first time without the use of a machine.

All players on the bench are placed in the batting rotation and are also able to take up any defensive position during any point in the game. The pitcher is a slight exception in that once a pitcher is removed from that position they are no longer eligible to pitch for the remainder of that game.

Nine players are used in the field, down from 10 which is used in rookie ball. Stealing bases is also introduced with one exception. Any base runner cannot leave the base they have occupied until the pitcher has released the ball.

Umpires will be calling balls and strikes with the batter getting either 4 balls for a walk, 3 strikes for a strike-out, or a base hit.

The pitching mound is moved back to 44′ 0″. The bases are a distance of 65′ 0″ apart. The above are the few basic differences between minor mosquito baseball and profesional baseball. All in all minor baseball is a great way to introduce your child to a great sport, where they will learn sportsmanship, teamwork and have a whole lot of fun!

Pee Wee

At the Bantam level all base and pitching distances are equal to the major league specifications, the distance between bases is 90′ and the pitchers pitch from a rubber on a raised mound that is 60′6″ from home plate.

A batting line up consists of 9 players who also have a defensive position and if desired an "EP" (extra player) who only bats. The "EP" player can be slotted in at any position in the batting order and is considered a starting player in terms of substitution. All other players not on the starting batting line up are considered substitutes and can be entered into the game at anytime. A substitute player will take the place of a starting player in the batting line up but can be put into any defensive position. Any starting player who has been substituted for, can re-enter the game once but must return to their original place in the batting order. A substitute player can only enter the game once.

The minimum bat size that can be used for a mixed age team (14 and 15 years old on the same team) is -5. This is calculated by subtracting the bat length from the bat weight. e.g. a bat 32" long can have a minimum weight of 27 oz. ( 27 - 32 = -5). Bantam players are allowed to wear steel cleats.
